On this blog, we’ll share our experiences and adventures as missionaries. We hope our experiences bring you a taste of senior missionary life in New York.

In the early spring of 2024, we expressed our desire to serve a mission. Brian’s expected retirement date was August 2, so we were available in August. We received our call to serve later that spring. We were surprised to learn that we had been asked to serve in New York City as employment services missionaries, meaning we would help the jobless and those looking to upgrade their employment take the first or next step in their employment.

We are inspired by the statement of Gordon B Hinckley about the importance of employment in peoples’ lives:

“A man out of work is of special moment to the Church because, deprived of his inheritance, he is on trial as Job was on trial—for his integrity. As days lengthen into weeks and months and even years of adversity, the hurt grows deeper. … The Church cannot hope to save a man on Sunday if during the week it is a complacent witness to the crucifixion of his soul.”7 From <https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/ensign/2012/11/priesthood-session/brethren-we-have-work-to-do?lang=eng

We hope to make a difference in the lives of the good people of New York, not just on Sundays but as active guides and cheerleaders to help them with their livelihoods. We hope you enjoy the journey with us.
