We attended the Manhattan 2 Ward and had 2 young professionals offer to network with job seekers who are interested in graphic design and IT. They are both BYU Provo graduates and they gave us their contact information. So nice of them. And we spoke with a few job seekers in that ward who want to meet with us about finding employment. Our mission president assigned us to attend 3 of the wards that meet in the Union Square building. A Family ward, a Young Single Adult ward (YSA), and a Single Adult ward (SA). (The 4th ward that meets there is an ASL branch.) We have recently attended the 3 Union Square Wards.
When we got on the subway to go to church one morning, we sat down and a little girl in a stroller said really loudly, “Church!” And then her mother said, “And what do we say in church?” The little girl said, “AAAAmen.”
In the Union Square Young Single Adult Ward that we attended, the very first person we met was a counselor in the Bishopric. When we told him that we are Employment Service Missionaries, he said that he works for Linkedin and would be more that happy to be a resource for job seekers. After sacrament meeting, the Bishop asked everyone who was new to stand up and introduce themselves. About 20 people stood up. After we introduced ourselves and explained that we are Employment Service missionaries, a ward member approached us to say that she works in Human Resources and would be happy to review any job seeker resumes that we might need help with. People are so kind.
Also, Nick Fazio, a former BYU Lacrosse teammate of Matt’s came over to give us big hugs. He is in his 4th year of Medical School at Stoneybrook and hopes to match for residency at University of Utah (Ophthalmology.) Nick was just visiting the Union Square Ward that Sunday. He said that when he saw Brian, he knew that he was Matt’s father.
