Sheila and I (loosely I) mailed an item at the post office. While Sheila was doing her mail thing on the self-serve machine, I noticed the woman next to her struggling with her machine. I offered my help and tried to have a very positive conversation with her as well. I was able to help her complete her Post Office business and she left with a smile. We became friends. We (Sheila) finished and left the post office.
As we were walking across Columbus at 67th street, someone called us, “Elder and Sister.” We stopped briefly but then walked across the street with them before the light changed. They introduced themselves as Elder and Sister Buckner. He is a General Authority Seventy who used to be the Area Authority here, having lived in NYC for 30+ years. He said that he noticed how I was nice to the woman in the post office.
They greeted us warmly and kindly having picked up a pizza at La Traviata. I told him about my pizza comparison and how Sydnie Calderwood recommended “See No Evil.” They know the Calderwoods well, so snapped a photo of all of us to send to Kevin and Sydnie. Small world in the church and fun to meet someone who has made such a big difference in NYC. He is starting in the area presidency in Hong Kong August 1.
