Erica Steiner, the Northeast Regional Employment Specialist, came to New York City from Salt Lake City for meetings this week. She spent two days at the Employment Center with us and was able to meet our four young service missionaries, observe what we are doing and give us some good training. She brought her husband to NYC with her. (He did some sightseeing while she was with us at the Employment Center.) Tuesday night, Erica and her husband, Brian, and Brian and I went to see the Broadway play, “Maybe Happy Ending.” We had great seats on the fourth row and were really enjoying the play when, over the loud speaker we heard, “Actors, leave the stage immediately.” And that is exactly what the actors did….after about two minutes, they announced that a musician backstage had a medical emergency and that they needed to call an ambulance. They asked us to be patient and told us that the show would resume as soon as possible. One of the actors, Dez Duron, who plays Gil Brentley in the show came on stage and said that “he pulled the short straw” so he was going to entertain us….he sang a couple of Frank Sinatra songs. Then he happily walked off stage…..he came back on stage looking dejected with his head down. He sang another song and then the lead actor, Darren Criss, came on stage with a guitar. He called the female lead out, Helen Shen, and the three of them took song requests. A few times they didn’t know all of the words to the requested songs and either made up words or listened as someone in the audience yelled the upcoming words to them and then sang those words. They were very fun and funny. Darren said, “This is very unique…I know this isn’t what you paid for….” The show resumed after about 45 minutes. We felt like we got 2 shows for the price of one!
