Two Boots pizza is just a few blocks from us but we had not tried it until Monday. It’s a fun, kid-friendly pizza place with some interesting pizza names and ingredients. The two boots represent the boot shapes on a map of both Italy and Louisiana: pizza with a cajun twist. The combo worked for us. We tried the Bayou Beast (spiced shrimp, crawfish, andouille, jalapenos, mozzarella), and the Meat the Mets (Sweet Italian sausage, creole chicken, Zoe’s all natural pepperoni, jalapeños, ricotta & mozzarella). They use a cornmeal curst–tasty but not the best curst we’ve had. The Beast was surprisingly good with the spicy seafood on a pizza. The Mets was also good. The pepperoni was thick and spicier than most–a winner. Sauce and cheese on both were good, not the top, but definitely not the bottom.
Updated battle rankings:
- Ribalta. Still the top–crust is amazing.
- Made in New York Pizza. Excellent crust, toppings, cheese combo.
- La Traviata. Crust pushed it above the others.
- Rosetta Bakery: treating the mini-battle as an aberration and hoping (they’re very close to us) they are still delicious.
- Two Boots. Great toppings with good crust, good cheese, OK sauce. I think fresh vs. reheated (by the slice) makes a difference.
- Francesco’s (FranJessica’s). Very close finish to 3 and 4.
- Max Brenner’s. First pizza in NY. We liked it, but it’s quickly fading from memory.
- Pop’s pizza. Same with Pop’s. Remember is as good but fading from memory.
- Pizza Collective. Roma style with good crust (we like Roma-style crust), but lacking in the toppings, cheese, sauce. Good but not great.
Subway on the way to the office at midmorning (never seen it so empty) vs. on the way home at 5 PM. I think Sheila prefers the midmorning one.
