Sheila and I enjoyed getting to know Elder Park from Korea. He let me speak some Korean to him, even though his English was much better than my Korean. He transferred to another area, so will be missed. He has a good attitude and is very friendly.
One of our employment services missionaries Elder Thomas Kemp from Connecticut, mentioned on the phone the other day that our work is a joyful work. I agree. Helping people with such an important part of life as employment, is joyful.
The Manhattan temple is still undergoing the deconstruction phase, so we hear and feel the noise from our apartment. Elder Doug and Martha Welling, the temple construction missionaries, sponsored a Crumbl cookie night for all the tenants in the apartments, knowing that the noise would be increasing and continuing for a few months. It’s still going to be a few years before the temple is complete but it will look beautiful on the inside and outside. Here is a rendition of what the outside will look like.
What are temple construction missionaries? Do they teach the gospel to the construction workers?
Temple Construction missionaries oversee the construction and keep church leaders informed on progress. They usually have a background in construction. They develop key relationships with construction companies to ensure smooth construction. They also run a small visitors’ center to show visitors what the temple will look like when completed, and how long the construction will last. They generally do not teach the gospel to others, only through their example.
