Sheila and I are determined to find the best pizza in Manhattan. Most pizza places claim to be the best, but we’ll let you know who’s really the best. So far, here are the rankings:
- Ribalta: a Michelin guide recommended Neopolitan pizza (crispy, cracker-like crust). We tried the Comune (red and yellow “piennolo” tomatoes reduction, imported fior di latte, basil sauce, provolone from Monti Lattari fondue) and the Capricciosa (Imported fior di latte, mushrooms, prosciutto cotto, artichokes and olives).
- Rosetta Bakery: our local bakery makes wonderful pizza. It’s not NY style, but has a chiabatta-like crust, great cheese, and excellent, fresh toppings. Very close to number 1.
- Max Brenner’s. First pizza in NY. We liked it.
- Pop’s pizza. Pure NY pizza: huge slices, thin crust. Good.
- LaTraviata: Closest pizza place. We tried the whole wheat crust. Hearty, but cardboard-like. May have to try a regular crust. Pop’s and LaTraaviata are tiny. Three customers can fit in at once, but no more.
More updates to come.
I love your quest to find the best pizza in NYC—enjoy every bite and have a great time!! 🍕
Shane thinks he ate at Ribalta when he was in NYC for a week of training.
Ribalta is still the reigning champ. We look forward to upcoming challengers. Ribalta is located very close to Union Square–not sure if that helps Shane know for sure.
