March 27, 2025: Zoro

Ty came to visit us in NYC and was able to spend three hours with us at the employment center. He met the other full time employment services missionary, Sister Neff and our four young service missionaries who volunteer at the employment center. Ty was also able to meet Zoro. Zoro is a job seeker from Queens, who Brian helped to get a good job as a warehouse worker. Brian worked with Zoro for a few weeks. He worked on his resume and taught him about networking and helped him write a strong, “Me in  30.”  Zoro took Brian’s counsel seriously and applied the things that he learned. Zoro said that he remembered the story in the New Testament (Luke 17) about the 10 lepers that Jesus healed. And only one of those who were healed returned to give thanks to Jesus. We were very humbled that he would spend his time and money to come back to the employment center to tell us, “Thank you.” He said that we were “angels.”

Elder Butler and his wife live in Brooklyn and are coordinators for the young service missionaries in NYC. Elder Butler, Elder Zamora (not a service missionary with us), Elder Pimentel, Elder Campbell, Elder Pinelli, and Sister Rosales.

The legend of Zoro! This Zoro may not wear a mask and carve ‘Z’s’ into shirts, but it sounds like he’s left a real mark on the hearts of those he met—just like you both have through your service. It’s cool to see how acts of kindness and guidance can ripple outward. Grateful for the work you’re doing and the lessons that come along with it!
